East Knox Welcomes The Carol M. White Physical Education Program Grant!
The Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) provides grants to local education agencies to initiate, expand, or enhance physical education programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Grant recipients must implement programs that help students make progress toward meeting state standards.
Many opportunities will be offered to East Knox’s students through the PEP Grant. It will provide your child with physical activity, knowledge of health and wellness, and nutrition education. The grant has three main goals that align with Ohio’s state standards:
To increase students' daily physical activity
To increase students' cardiovascular fitness levels
To increase students' consumption of fruits and vegetables
In order to reach these goals, we will be collecting data on students served by the grant throughout the school year in the following ways:
Pedometers will be issued and they will be asked to complete the 3-Day Physical Activity Recall (3DPAR) so that we can calculate the percentage of students who engage in at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity.
We will conduct a 20 meter shuttle run to determine the percentage of students who achieve age-appropriate cardiovascular fitness levels.
Students will be asked to answer questions from the 2011 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) so that we can evaluate the percentage of students who consume fruit two or more times per day and vegetables three or more times per day.
As staff, we are looking forward to a great year of promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles for the students of East Knox.
Lets go Bulldogs!
