Welcome to East Knox Elementary
Right to Read Week
April 29 - May 3
Students are enjoying many fun reading activities this week, as they celebrate Right to Read Week. The theme this year is BOOKS ARE A HIT and or HIT IT OUT WITH A GOOD BOOK (baseball/softball). The book fair theme is Mad Scientist Lab, with plenty of nonfiction and science books for sale.
Classes are competing to read the most minutes. Every day there is a different Special Dress Day, keeping with the theme.
Monday-Wear Neon (part of the mad science theme)
Tuesday--Baseball/softball cap day
Wednesday-Uniform day
Thursday-Support your favorite team day
Friday-Come as a scientist
Students are using daily reading slips to earn credit for their class teams. The class in each grade level that turns in the most minutes read will get a Take-Me-Out-to-the-ballgame party with popcorn, peanuts, and drinks.
COSI will be here May 3, 2013
"It's Simply Chemistry"
Students get a lesson in slimy science when COSI brings its traveling science program It's Simply Chemistry to East Knox Elementary Friday. May 3. Students will explore chemistry through interactive, innovative experiments that introduce new science principles. The program is designed to enhance students' knowledge of the chemistry in their daily lives.
To learn more, just go to www.cosi.org and click on "Extension Activities" under It's Simply Chemistry.
Thanks to the students participating in the 2013 GAO Magazine Sale. They have raised enough money to bring COSI here in May.
Top sales go to Hunter McDonald. He will get to be "Principal for a Day." The top class in sales was Mrs. Huff's class, and they will receive prizes and a celebration.
Thank you for supporting East Knox Elementary!!
Congratulations To East Knox Local Schools
Dear Superintendent:
On behalf of the State Board of Education and Ohio Department of Education, we congratulate you on your district’s exemplary performance during the 2011-2012 school year. Achieving the ranking of Excellent on the 2011-2012 Local Report Card is a testament to the hard work and dedication of your teachers, staff, students, parents and community.
We understand that the process to finalize the results for the 2011-2012 school year has delayed celebrating your success and we appreciate your patience.
Congratulations again on your achievements, and best wishes for continued success this school year.

TDI’S READING PROGRAM
Children Reading to Dogs
We have a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a reading program which will provide a relaxed and “dog-friendly” atmosphere for students to practice their reading skills. They will read with Riley, a trained therapy dog. Riley, a Yellow Lab, is part of the TDI program; to learn more go to www.tdi-dog.org
Riley will visit classrooms and/or work with students one-on-one during reading time. Riley’s owner, who is also trained, will assist Riley and students with the Children Reading to Dogs program.
